The Final Thing

The hare was once boasting of his speed before the other animals. "I have never yet been beaten," said he, "when I put forth my full speed. I challenge anyone here to race with me."
The tortoise said quietly, "I accept your challenge."
"That is a good joke," said the hare. "I could dance around you all the way."
"Keep your boasting until you've beaten," answered the tortoise. "Shall we race?"
So a course was fixed and a start was made. The hare darted almost out of sight at once, but soon stopped and, to show his contempt for the tortoise, lay down to have a nap. The tortoise plodded on and plodded on, and when the hare awoke from his nap, he saw the tortoise nearing the finish line, and he could not catch up in time to save the race.
Moral: Plodding got me to the end of 23 Things

At last, I made it. I have been behind schedule all the way. 23 Things have been an eye-opener. I am pleased that I’d played with all the Things even with the ones that I don’t particular enjoy. But at least, I know they are there and I might use them under different circumstances.
I have my own personal blog and a frequent Flickr user. I enjoyed Twitter, iGoogle and I wish Endnote Web was available when I was a student. I am still in doubt about the role of web 2.0 for libraries. Does having a Facebook page or a Twitter account make any difference? But I can see that new ways of delivering information changes the way a library operates and we as librarians have to keep up with these things.

My final thoughts is that to really make a full impact and to participate well, I either have to have a lot of time on my hands and/or be a full-time social media participant.

Sliding through things

I did have a blog on the UK Library Blogs wiki but abandoned it after the restructuring process. It was getting to be a bit too personal.
For the purpose of this Project, I have included mine. Will it last???
I have used Google Docs before.  I have received a document from More 23 Things and a very pretty flower from The Metadata Magician.  I like the idea of the collaboration between multiple people on real-time and the ability to convert them into PDF’s etc.
I have no use of SlideShare at the moment although I could see the benefits. Reuse and remix someone’s hard work? Not too sure about that.

Flickering through things

My husband and I have been posting photographs on Flickr ever since it started.

Regarding Creative Commons, we have come across a lot of our images downloaded and reproduced without our permission which is really a pain to you know where. Some still had our water-marks embedded in the images.
From what I can see, using You Tube is the best way to get noticed. And You Tube EDU does it so well.

Tagging along with things

I had problems registering with Diigo. I spent the whole morning waiting to receive the authentication e-mail.  I had a Google account but had forgotten the password. I will experiment with Diigo once I got everything sorted out.
I did familiarised myself with the library’s Endnote Webpage and understood why they were useful for students and researchers.  But I don’t have a reason for using it at the moment.
After watching the short screencast explaining how Zotero works, it looked very easy to use. I particularly find the dragging, dropping and harvesting bibliographic references into the correct standard useful if I was a student.

Stumbling behind with Things

I saw Emma waving the checkered flag and I guess I really need to catch up, again. So here I am whizzing through, again. I already have accounts with the two social networking tools, Twitter and Facebook. But, I had never used them before.

For this project, I decided to join in the fun. I have tweeted a few bits and pieces although it was quite difficult to impart information in 140 characters.  But I did enjoy following the tweets from other people.

Everyone I know is into Facebook. I have one but it was never active. I prefer the human-to-human interaction. Does that show my age???

I can see why libraries are using a popular forum widely used by the students. Will students check their library Facebook? 2466 in our library were not too bad.
